1. Gather Your Supplies: The first step in making your own candles is to gather all the supplies you’ll need. You’ll need soy wax, essential oils, wicks, a pouring pot, glasses or metal containers, a thermometer and a wooden spoon. You can find all these items at your local craft store or online.
2. Prepare Your Containers: Before you begin melting your wax, you’ll need to prepare your containers. If you’re using glasses, you’ll need to attach your wicks to the bottom of the containers. This can be done with wick stickers or a bit of melted wax. Once the wicks are secured, place the glasses in a larger pot. This will allow you to heat the container without the risk of it breaking.

3. Melt the Wax and Add Essential Oils: Once your containers are prepared, you can begin melting your wax. Place the wax in the pouring pot and heat it on medium-low heat, stirring with a wooden spoon. When the thermometer reaches a temperature of 160°F, turn off the heat and add a few drops of your favorite essential oils. You can experiment with different combinations to find a scent that you love. Some of our favorite essential oils are listed below:

  • Lavender Essential Oil.
  • Lemongrass Essential Oil.
  • Tea Tree Essential Oil.
  • Lemon Essential Oil.
  • Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil.
4. Pour the Wax and Cool: Once your wax is melted and fragranced, turn the heat back on to medium-low and continue to heat the wax until it reaches a temperature of 170-180°F. Once the wax has reached that temperature, turn off the heat and carefully pour the wax into the containers. Let the candles cool completely before trimming the wicks or moving them.
5. Enjoy Your Candle: Your soy wax candles are now ready to use! Place them in your favorite spots and light them up when you want to add a bit of natural ambience to your home. You can also use these candles as gifts for friends and family.
